Super-Intelligent Machines

Author(s)

Hibbard (University of Wisconsin) predicts that humans will create intelligent machines in 100 years that will be perceived as conscious beings and perhaps even gods. These machines will be nearly infallible at picking stocks and able to solve social problems more effectively than an army of social workers, but they must be programmed to love humans. Regarding the lack of progress made in artificial intelligence since the original hype of the 1970s, the author attributes this failure to the greater complexity of human brains relative to current computers and suggests that people will develop intelligent machines sometime around 2100.
