This book is designed to assist agricultural scientists working on the ecologies of plant viruses and their vectors to gain an insight into the usefulness of modelling for their research. Some of the basic elements central to the study of the vector-virus system, including virus survey methods and virus strain identification, are reviewed. Examples are given of where some virus-vector systems have been modelled for predictive use. This book itself provides a model for improving (or extending) the applicability of research in plant virus ecology to the prediction and control of plant virus outbreaks.
Audience: Plant scientists, agricultural researchers, and departments of agriculture.
