Patterson And Pattersons: Fifty Years Of The Patterson Function (iucr Crystallographic Symposia)

Author(s)

In 1934, A. Lindo Patterson proposed the method for determining crystal structures which forms the basis of our ability to understand three-dimensional structures in chemistry, biochemistry, geology, and many other branches of science. To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Patterson's discovery, a symposium, "Patterson and Patterson's: Fifty years of the Patterson Function," was held in 1984. In addition to the 39 lectures and contributions on the theory and applications of the Patterson Function, as well as on other modern aspects of crystallography, this volume contains many personal reminiscences by Lindo Patterson's widow and by his contemporaries and friends. The intimate intertwining of scientific study and personal memories lends this book its special appeal.
