New Technology and the Process of Labour Regulation

How has the introduction of new technology altered relations between workers and management? How have trade unions and management adapted to changes in job content and the broader structure of control? Focusing on case studies of four industries-brewing, chemicals, small-batch engineering, and insurance-and drawing on data from a survey of over 1000 shop stewards, this book examines the impact of new technology within the workplace and makes a unique contribution to the analysis of work experience, the labor process debate, and the study of management strategy and trade union organization.
