This textbook seeks to explain how to practice effectively in complex systems and diverse communities. It provides an integrated overview of the theory and skills fundamental to social work, analyzing classical modes and introducing new experiments. Particular chapters focus on the nature of social and community problems, the concept of community, community intervention, documenting community life, assessment, assertiveness, work groups, networking, social marketing, advocacy, organizing, and community case work.
